Enjoy the decadent flavor of tiramisu any time of day with this healthy tiramisu latte recipe. It tastes just as indulgent as the beloved Italian dessert but without the sugar overload. Quick and easy to make, it features antioxidant-rich cacao, fragrant vanilla, and your choice of milk for creamy goodness.
Like my Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe, this tiramisu latte makes delicious mid-morning treat that’s completely customizable. Whether you prefer regular or decaf coffee or espresso, you’ll still get that rich, indulgent flavor you love—plus, ingredients that support gut health. It’s a win-win!
It’s completely customizable–make it decaf and use your favorite milk.
Key Ingredients
Brewed Coffee – Tiramisu is made with espresso, but you don’t need an espresso maker to enjoy a tiramisu latte. Any high quality, dark roast coffee works great. If you prefer espresso, use that.
Raw CacaoPowder – Not to be confused with cocoa powder, cacao is chocolate in its raw form. Unlike alkalized or “Dutch” cocoa that’s been treated with a solution resulting in negligible nutrients, cacao has many health benefits and a rich chocolatey flavor.
Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk – You can use any variety you like, though higher-fat milks foam better. I like concentrated almond milk with a splash of coconut milk for extra creaminess.
Pure VanillaExtract – Adds that warm, sweet aroma that pairs so well with cacao and coffee.
See the recipe card below for complete ingredients and instructions.
How to Make a Tiramisu Latte
Step 1: Brew the coffee.
Step 2: In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, warm the nut milk and vanilla extract, whisking occasionally until the milk begins to foam. (Be careful not to let it boil or burn). Turn off the heat.
Step 3: Add the cacao powder to a coffee cup and pour a few ounces of coffee over it. Use a latte frother or a small whisk to blend until smooth and no cacao clumps remain. Top with the remaining coffee, leaving room for the foamed milk.
Step 4: Froth or whisk the milk again to give it extra foam, then pour it over the coffee. Sweeten to taste and garnish with extra cacao powder or cinnamon if desired.
Recipe Tips
To Reduce Caffeine – If you’re sensitive to caffeine like I am, use decaf coffee. Water processed decaf doesn’t use chemical solvents and contains less residual caffeine than standard decaf. Keep in mind that raw cacao naturally contains caffeine, so your latte won’t be completely caffeine-free, but it will be much smoother.
Use a Vanilla Bean Pod – For even more flavor, use a real vanilla bean instead of extract. Carefully slice the bean open with a sharp paring knife and scrape out the seeds using the blunt side of the blade. Add them to the milk as it warms.
Add Collagen Peptides – For extra protein and a longer lasting foam, add a scoop of unflavored collagen peptides to the almond milk. I use this trick every time I make Cinnamon Milk.
Batching – Making multiple tiramisu lattes? Save time by whisking the cacao directly into the coffee carafe instead of each individual cup. A latte or matcha frother works great for this.
FAQs
Why does almond milk separate in coffee?
The acidity of coffee coagulates the proteins in nut milk, causing separation. This doesn’t affect the flavor or make it “bad.” Just stir it occasionally to remix. If it sits long enough, it might even resemble the layers of a tiramisu cake!
Is a tiramisu latte sweet?
That’s up to you! The beauty of making it at home is that you can control both the sweetener type and level of sweetness instead of relying on sugary, artificially flavored syrups.
Do I have to heat the milk?
No, but it will foam better if you do. If you don’t care for a foamy latte, just pour your favorite milk directly into the cup once the cacao and coffee are blended.
How to make an iced tiramisu latte?
1. Brew a stronger cup of coffee, using half as much water. 2. Blend the cacao into the hot coffee, then fill the cup with ice. 3. Finish with cold milk and sweeten to taste.
